Which female models inspired you in 2011, and why? Who makes your list of “next generation supermodels”? Who should we all be keeping our eyes on in 2012?
Modelmanagement.com pick 5 of our favourite female models of 2011!
Freja Beha Erichsen
Self-confessed tomboy Freja is best known for her tattoos and being fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld’s muse. When her modelling career kicked off in 2005, this down to earth teenager was less interested in fashion and more interested in Metallica.
In 2011 we saw the many different faces of Freja, and it is her versatility that we admire above all. She was the face of Karl Lagerfeld eyewear, Chanel, Valentino and Isabel Marant. She might describe her individual style as punky, but we think she looks beautiful in this Valentino Couture gown as well!
Already known to be the face of Hugo by Hugo Boss advertising campaign (with male model Sean O’Pry), it has now been confirmed that Freja will, alongside friend Arizona Muse, be the face of Chloe’s S/S 2012 collection.
Freja takes time out of her busy schedule to help support and raise awareness for ‘Doctors Without Borders‘; an international medical organisation. And, for that, this rockstar is a sweetheart in our eyes.
American Karlie has modelled for some of fashion’s biggest names. She became the face of Christian Dior, Spring 2011 – a campaign she will front in 2012 as well. She has walked the runway for Jean-Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli, Marc Jacobs, John Galliano and Ralph Lauren… And that’s just a handful!
2011 was a great year for Karlie. After turning 19, not only was she given Elle Macpherson’s title as “the body” and she signed a contract with major lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret.
When she featured in a Vogue Italia editorial, dedicated to her ballet dancer’s physique, controversy broke loose and pro-anorexia websites were using her images as, what they called, ‘thinspiration’.
Karlie is a model well-known for her incredible body and her catwalk strut (sometimes called the ‘Zombie Walk’ or ‘Death Stare’), but at the same time she remains an all-American girl with family at heart. Karlie’s also the model known to bake cookies for the crew at photo shoots!
We are very interested to see what turning 20 might bring her in 2012!
After being exclusively selected to walk the runway for Givenchy couture in 2010 Joan’s modelling career until now leaves her to be nothing short of a star.
Not only did she become the first black model to represent Esteé Lauder, she is increasingly experimental in her editorials and posed nude amongst some of the top supermodels (such as Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista and Lara Stone) for 2012’s Pirelli calender.
In 2011 Joan also became the face of Roberto Cavalli and Stella McCartney and renewed her contract as the face of Gucci.
She is now confirmed to be the new face of Chanel S/S 2012, and gets acrobatic for the photos with fellow model Saskia de Brauw.
Former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld, places Joan in her list of the “next generation of supermodels” and so we will happily take her word for it and look forward to what’s next in line for Puerto Rican Joan.
Lindsey is sending us topsy turvy… Just like her on the catwalk! Famous for the gap in between her front teeth and taking a tumble or two on the catwalk, we think Lindsey is cool, sweet and unconventionally beautiful.
In 2011 Lindsey impressed us countless times. She walked for in an impressive number of shows (despite being a little uneasy on her feet), for some of fashion’s most desired labels, including Versace, Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel.
It seems that designers, photographers and agents couldn’t get enough of Lindsey’s light-hearted and edgy poses along with a flawless doll-like face because in 2012 she will front campaigns for Mulberry and Just Cavalli.
Bambi Northwood Blyth
Fresh-faced and cute, 21 year old Bambi is pretty new to the fashion scene we think she makes a great contender on who to look out for in 2012. Famous for her baby doll face and her rather large eyebrows, she is perfect for high fashion looks.
Making her debut appearance on the catwalk in 2011, she also modelled for Moschino, Giles, Calvin Klein, Pepe Jeans, Topshop Unique and H&M; all brands with a youthful and light-hearted attitude just like Bambi.
Bambi has said she’d love to work with Dolce & Gabana and shoot with Mario Testino. Let’s wait and see if she does in 2012… We’ve got high hopes for the bushy tailed beauty!
Modelmanagement.com think these girls are superstars! We love Freja’s down-to-earth attitude and her punky style, Karlie’s sweet natured charisma yet fierce strut, Joan’s edgy versatility, Lindsey’s clumsy and cute demeanour and Bambi’s refreshing uniqueness (not forgetting her eyebrows!)
