António Romano is the renowned Director of Central Models– the famous portuguese model agency who discovered Ana Margarida, the female winer the FreshFaces 2014. We interviewed Mr.Romano to find out about his feelings on discovering the next fashion promise as well as his experience collaborating with modelmanagement.com scouting models since the global start of Fresh Faces.
ModelManagement: What does it mean to you to as an agency to win the Fresh Faces 2014 World Finals with your model?
António Romano: It’s very rewarding for a Model Agency to see one of its models win an International contest. Beyond the prestige, it is also a recognition of all the hard work done by Central Models and an immediate career projection for our winner Ana Margarida.
MM: How was the experience of participating in a modeling contest together with other modeling agencies from around the world?
AR: The work of an Agency should not be restricted to its own market. A good international relationship with our clients is guarantee for a proper global functioning, and an added value for our represented models.
MM: Which importance do you as an agency assign to the Fresh Faces Modeling contest by Modelmanagement.com?
AR: To be involved in an International contest like Fresh Faces is fundamental for a Model Agency. It’s very motivating for a model to know that there’s the possibility to represent their own country at the Grand Finals as well as the awareness of the importance and responsibility that should be around a professionalism that agencies intend for their represented models. It is a great pleasure for Central to be with Fresh Faces since the moment of birth of this contest, and a victory as we managed to always stay in the first places.
MM: How important are new faces in your agency?
AR: Since the birth of our agency Central Models, we always gave much attention to scouting, training young New Faces and later push their internationalization. It’s the ability to discover and form new faces that agencies ensure the most of their proper functioning in the future.
MM: What did you gain trough participating at this contest, besides winning Fresh Faces?
AR: Recognition, prestige, international contacts, but above all a new generation of new models. In the case of our winner Ana Margarida, the immediate projection of another star that comes to the spotlight in the world of the image.
MM: Why did your agency decide for Ana Margarida? What made her so special?
AR: The body and its proportions, her beauty and Portuguese / Latin features, her smile and hair, very nice communication skills and the attitude in front of a camera, a very important and decisive factor to overcome as a model.
MM: How did the training look like with your models? What were your main advices for the FF Contest in Barcelona?
AR: The Portuguese finals of Fresh Faces occurred just four days before the Grand Final in Barcelona. Ana Margarida was subjected to great emotional pressure, it didn’t make sense to start her training at that time, so there was only the concern to transmit positive energy to strengthen her self-esteem to go to Barcelona full of confidence. The last message that we transmitted upon departure from Lisbon airport, was to always show her beautiful smile to everyone, be naturally friendly in all contacts, and it worked.. her smile remained memorable to this day!
MM: What career developments do you expect for Ana Margarida after winning an international contest such as Fresh Faces?
AR: The first step is to help her to “settle her feet down to earth” and start a career with humble attitude as if she were starting from scratch. Next year will be about her formation as a model, acting in front of the camera, casting techniques and development of her portfolio, so she can gain some work experience and begin her international journey. She has a big potential, and we are happy for this new opportunity to manage a good career!
