modelmanagement.com: Where are you from and where do you live now?
Carolina Coto: I was born in Costa Rica I am half costarican/spanish, and live between US and CR.
MM: Are you a professional model or new face?
CC: A professional model.
Who is your model agency?
CC: My mother agency is Key Model Management
MM: Tell us how you got started as a model?
CC: At the age of 12 I joined a small modeling agency in Costa Rica and soon enough I got discovered by Avon featuring the face of their catalogue, runways, videos for that date till present. For the following years my appearances included editorials, catalogues, runways, for brands such as Barcelona’s fashion house ”Mango” and glamorous Canadian brand ”La Senza”. I represented Costa Rica as Miss Global Beauty Queen 2009 in China with great success during my trip back I met with Elite Model Management in Miami.
I’ve worked for designers such as Nicolita, Alexis, Luli Fama, Nicole Miller and debuted in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for Summer in July 2010 and then again this year.
MM: What’s been the most spectacular highlight or model experience for you so far?
CC: Traveling gives the opportunity to see new places and meet new people, which is one of the most spectacular experiences in this career.
MM: What are your hopes and ambitions for your future as a model?
CC: Modeling gives you the ability to communicate and connect with thousands of people, you become an important roll in society it gives you the power to be a ”roll model” and deliver a message. I hope to contribute to society and make the best of my career.
MM: Who do you admire most in the modelling or the fashion world and why?
CC: Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel, because of how her own evolution contributed to they way we see fashion today.
MM: How did you first hear about modelmanagement.com?
CC: Through online research.
MM: You are extremely good at self promotion, how important is this for a model?
CC: It is very important, I come from a country where there is no big fashion nor modeling industry to make of this a career, it wasn’t easy to get ”discovered” or scouted like it happens to so many models in other countries where the industry is well developed. Today in a globalized world and with the power of the Internet we have the ability to connect to people from anywhere in the world, to introduce ourselves and this is a big opportunity that starts by self promotion.
