My name is Olga Madihlaba, I am 19 years old and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am a first year student at the University of Johannesburg, completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics Philosophy and Economics. I am an ambitious and driven by passion. I am an extreme hard-worker and incredible fast learner. I remain calm and can still perform to perfection even when I am under pressure. I have known that modelling is what I want to do since I was 10 years old. In the prime of my teens, I suffered brutal bullying as a result of my abnormally dark skin and tall structure. I went through a lonely phase of insecurity and self-insufficiency. I was shaken and driven to the edge of my sanity and inner serenity but I was fortunate enough to have had the strength to drive it towards a positive conclusion which is where I decided that I am going to run and I am going to chase, I am prepared to sweat in order to fulfil my dreams. It was an experience that basically pushed me to want to become a better person in future because I was desperate to escape the trauma of bullying. I sat down and patiently squeezed out some fresh juice for lemonade out of the lemons that life was throwing at me and that is the simple story of how my modelling dream was conceived. I would like to fly a high flag for all the young growing up like I did, being told that who they are is not good enough. I would like to redefine beauty, to break boundaries and have young girls looking up to me. I have been committed to this dream since my high school years, entering as many modelling competitions as possible, doing intense research on the industry and following some of the biggest names in the business. The likes of Naomi Campbell, she has broken many fashion records as the first Black woman to grace prestigious magazine covers such as that of British and French Vogue. Iman Abdulmajid is also another one of my motivations. She came in to the modelling scene at a time when all the odds were against her and the fact that she thrived takes the meaning of the word dedication to a whole new level. I would like to follow in her footsteps too and push my limits, go out there and make my mark plus I guess it also helps that I take really awesome pictures as well.
I am characterized by my quick wit, impeccable sense of humour and good looks. My work ethic is commendable and I practice professionalism religiously. Being from a rural area where modelling opportunities were as scarce as frogs in a dry land, right now I am willing to grab this opportunity with both hands and probably cling on it with my feet as well because it is the big break I have been yearning for and now that it is within my reach I just want to jump on it and take it for a smooth long ride. I am a philanthropist, art fanatic and an aspiring author. I love writing and I document my opinions on socio-economic and political issues on my blog. I am a winner in waiting!
