Making realistic goals and achieving them

For the benefit of reading in this playbook, there is made use of a statements which many photographers want: doing a commercial shoot.

For the goals to be formulated well, make the goals:

  • Specific, if you are not specific with what you want to achieve it is hard to define if you have actually me the goal you wanted to meet:

Before: ‘I want to do work for a client’
After: ‘I want to do a shooting where i get paid.’

  • Measurable, you want to have evidence that proves that you are making the progress you wanted:

Before: ‘I want to do a shooting where i get paid.’
After: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where i can get an hourly salary from.’
  • Achievable, look at your skills and the skills you can possibly learn in order to meet the goal and don’t do anything that doesn’t fit your motivation levels or personality.

Before: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where i can get an hourly salary from.’
After: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where i get paid $60,- dollars an hour, i can acheive this goal by making increases in my pricelists.’
  • Relevant, don’t set goals that are not of high value to yourself or the company.

Before: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where i get paid $60,- dollars an hour, i can acheive this goal by increasing my pricelists.’
After: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where I get paid $60,- dollars an hour, I can acheive this goal by increasing my pricelists while offering my professional work to many clients.’

  • Timely, look at how motivated you are and how much time you can spend on reaching your goals and make a choice based of that.

Before: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where I get paid $60,- dollars an hour, I can acheive this goal by increasing my pricelists while delivering my professional work to possible clients.’
After: ‘I want to do a commercial shooting where I get paid $60,- dollars an hour, I can acheive this goal by increasing my pricelists this month while delivering my professional work to possible clients.’
